How to fix error ‘com.digitalpersona.onetouch.jni.JniException’ for UareU Digital Persona Scanners

If you are used to using the fingerprint scanner, you must have come across the following error ‘com.digitalpersona.onetouch.jni.JniException’ which usually occur when loading a java powered application on your browser that requires biometrics thumb-printing.

Digital Persona is a trusted product when it comes to fingerprint capturing. Organisations such as the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), National Examination Council (NECO), West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) and NABTEB all require that fingerprints of the candidates sitting for their exams must be captured.
And since the introduction of Fingerprint capturing by these examination bodies, it has been recommended by all of them that those registering these candidates should use UareU Digital Persona products.
However, many encounter the error  “com.digitalpersona.onetouch.jni.JniException” when they try to run the fingerprint interface from the browser on the respective exam body website.  This error could be frustrating as it hinders the registration process for the candidates.
We’ll be solving the below with the simple solution below;

How to Fix  Error “com.digitalpersona.onetouch.jni.JniException”

Firstly, we need to understand what is the cause of this error (com.digitalpersona.onetouch.jni.JniException). These error simply means that there is compatibility issue between the driver for your UareU Digital Personal device and the Runtime Environment of the website you are running the application.

To fix this issue, simply follow the steps below;

1. Uninstall all Digital Persona Drivers you have on your PC

NOTE: The drivers come in different types, some Start UareU, some Digital Persona or OneTouch.

Make sure you uninstall any driver related to Digital Persona.

2.  Download the Universal Digital Persona Driver for your PC below

Download RTE for 32 Bit | Download RTE for 64 Bit

 Note: The above drivers works for NYSC, JAMB, WAEC, NECO and NABTEB fingerprints registrations.
3. Install the downloaded driver and restart your computer.
Everything should work fine now. However if you still have issues taking the fingerprints of the student, it means there are other issues with other supporting software and that is Java RTE.
If you are still encountering any issue. It means you have issues for with your JAVA RTE installed on your computer.

How to Fix Java Related issues for Biometrics Capturing

Another issue that might hinder you from successfully capturing a candidate’s biometrics data is the version of Java you installed or the Java security settings.
It is recommended you install Java 7 update 60, or an up to date Java 8. After installing the right Java, follow the following steps to set the java secutity.
Step 1. Ensure you have Java activated on your browser. See how to do that for various browsers below;

Firefox

  1. Open the Firefox browser or restart it, if it is already running
  2. From the Firefox menu, select Tools, then click the Add-ons option
  3. In the Add-ons Manager window, select Plugins
  4. Click Java (TM) Platform plugin (Windows) or Java Applet Plug-in (Mac OS X) to select it
  5. Check that the option selected is Ask to Activate or Always Activate or on older Firefox versions, click on the Enable button (if the button says Disable, Java is already enabled)

Internet Explorer

  1. Click Tools and then Internet Options
  2. Select the Security tab, and select the Custom Level button
  3. Scroll down to Scripting of Java applets
  4. Make sure the Enable radio button is checked
  5. Click OK to save your preference
Safari
  1. Click on Safari and select Preferences
  2. Choose the Security option
  3. Select Allow Plug-ins, then click on Manage Website Settings
  4. Click on the Java item, select an option (Ask, Allow or Allow Always) from the pulldown list When visiting other websites
  5. Click Done, then close the Safari Preferences window

Step 2. Ensure you configure your Java Security Settings the right way. 

  1. From your Windows start menu, search for Configure Java and open it.
  2. Click the Security Tab on the dialog box.
  3. Take the Security Drawer to the lowest point (Medium in Java 7, and High in Java 8). Just ensure it’s at the lowest point.
  4. Click on Edit Site List Another dialog will open, now click on add in the next box, Now add the following URLs one at a time and click Add after each;

5.  Click ok, ok, ok to close all the dialog boxes. Now Restart the PC.

      • hola que, buen día… Tenia el mismo problema, y me sirvió de mucho la guía, ya guarda las huellas, solo que al momento de terminar la aplicación me apareció otro error que es el siguiente:

        • Hola, el error que encontraste es causada por la versión de Java que tiene en su equipo. Desinstalar todas las versiones de Java e instalar la última versión.

          Espero que esto ayude.
