Who could have thought that a Made-by-Google phone would stand any chance against the wonderful and long awaited iPhone 7 plus, that is the power of Google and the Alphabet owned company’s eagerness to succeed in the gadget world. After releasing the most popular and successful mobile operating system, Android, Google has been pushing its way up to mobile hardware.
With previous phones such as Moto X which was quite a success to some extent, the company saw the need to push up a bit in order to stand a chance against the two largest mobile companies in the world, Apple and Samsung. And to do that, it had to come up with a device that can stand against the Apple iPhone 7 and the Galaxy Note 7 among others.
The Google Pixel XL seems to be the answer. In this review, we’ll be comparing two of the most wonderful mobile devices of late 2016, Google Pixel XL and the iPhone 7 Plus.
GOOGLE PIXEL XL vs iPHONE 7 Plus: An expert Review
In this review, our comparison will be based on many factors which include battery capacity, performance, weight among other factors that made these phones to stand out from each other, and also the similarities between them. Enjoy the comparison between Google Pixel XL and the iPhone 7 Plus below;
MAKERS: While Apple tends and tries to produce and take credit for all its products, Google whose parent company is now called Alphabet takes credit for the google pixel XL without a dint of shout out to HTC which they contracted to produce the phone.In other words, the pixel XL was made by HTC, but design and specs were given by google.
BATTERY: The pixel XL battery with a 3450mAh capacity lasts longer and also charges faster than the iPhone 7 Plus which comes with a capacity of 2900mAh.The term mAh which means milliAmpere-hour gives an idea of how long a battery lasts. Usually, a higher figure indicates the battery would last longer.
RELEASE DATES: The google pixel XL was released in October this year while the iPhone 7 Plus was released a month earlier.
WATER RESISTANCE: If the rating is solely based on being water-proof then the iPhone 7 Plus would be the outright winner.While the iPhone 7 Plus would withstand a 30 minutes water immersion even immersing the google pixel XL in water for a minute will most probably damage it. However, this does not take away the fact that the google pixel XL withstands splashes of water and light rainfalls. Sony is still better at making water-resistant phones.
SIZES: The iPhone 7 Plus is physically bigger than the google pixel XL. Interestingly, both phones have the same screen sizes of 5.5 inches.
WEIGHT: With the google pixel XL weighing 168g, its counterpart, the iPhone 7 Plus is way heavier than it, predictably due the more metallic materials used in making the latter.
Since Apple is dominant in the US, iphones are regular phones over there in contrast to the scenario in Africa, particularly Nigeria where it is a luxury brand added to the high prices and the value of the greenback in comparison to the naira. Iphones hence unavoidably became products that separate the unique, or should I rather say, affluent and influential and those who pretend to be from the every other person, that is the masses or ‘styleless’.
CHIPS AND OPERATING SYSTEMS: The iPhone 7 Plus uses the premium A10 fusion chip and runs on the IOS 10. The google pixel XL, on the other hand has embedded the quadcore snapdragon 821(the Samsung analogue, the galaxy s7 edge comes with the Snapdragon 820).Its operating system is the up-to-date Android 7.1 Nougat.
SIM CARD AND MEMORY CARD SLOTS: The two phones make provision just for the nano sim. Another thing they share in common is that they have no provision for memory cards.Expectedly so, for phones that have humongous sizes of 128 gigabytes.The RAM(random access memory, which is the temporary storage)is 4 gigabytes for the google pixel XL and 3 gigabytes for the iphone 7 Plus (recall that even some personal computers run on 4 gig RAM).

CAMERA: The rear cameras have similar sizes, XL with 12.3 megapixel and 7 Plus with 12 megapixels, the front-end cameras vary somewhat in that while that of the google pixel XL is 8 megapixel, the front-end camera of the iPhone 7 Plus is 7 megapixel.However, it has being confirmed that size is not always in content—the iPhone 7 Plus still bests the pixel XL when it comes to photos and videos, but just slightly. In the case of the screen graphics, the google pixel XL tops.
SECURITY: Both phones come with fingerprint option as is the case for almost all modern phones and even personal computers.The iPhone has its own located at the front side of the phone while the google pixel XL’s own is located at the rear.
HEADPHONE JACK: I believe it is safe to presume that you heard of all that talk about the iPhone 7 Plus doing away with the 3.5mm headphone jack, well Apple kept true to its words while the pixel XL retained this component.The demerit in the case of the iPhone 7 Plus users is that they would be spending some more money to get the cordless earphones, which conversely generates more money for Apple.This means iPhone 7 Plus users now rely solely on NFC(near field connectivity) to play songs if it is only the user that wants to listen.Note that it is still NFC that apps like Xender use for file transfer including Bluetooth.
PRICING: The Google Pixel XL is priced around $1,121 on Amazon and that price is significantly lower than the Apple iPhone 7 Plus that cost around $1,357 that is over $200 USD price difference between them.
OTHER FEATURES: Both phones have irremovable batteries.The iPhone 7 Plus is more expensive than the google pixel XL .
