5 Reasons I Don’t Keep Pets

The desire to have pets or bring them into our homes as companions have now become one universal feature that can be attributed to human nature, especially in the western countries where almost all families have animals or pets in their respective homes.

Despite the global love for pets, not all persons, societies, families and groups are interested in the culture of keeping pets (such as dogs, cats etc) due to one reason or the other.

A recent study also reveals that there are a number of pets in the American Household than children. And in India, recent statistics show an increase in the number of families into pet keeping.

Pet keeping, on the other hand, seems disgusting and so hated by many individuals, religions, and societies.

According to Mohamed Shabin, who is from an Islamic country the Maldives, he reveals that his country’s Law prohibits keeping pets at home.

“Yes, my country, Maldives is an Islamic country that prohibits bringing in or owning dogs by law.

The country is made up of a chain of about 1190 separate islands and there is not a single dog insight in the whole country, on the some 200 or so islands that are inhabited by people.

There is a small amount of (around 10) dogs owned by the police department, all with foreign handlers that are kept out of the public’s view. You do occasionally see them when the police are running special operations, searches, raids, etc. Last I heard, their kennel was stationed in a private area on Hulhule’, the island where the international airport is located”

Pet-keeping may have several benefits, yet it has huge disadvantages and if your one of those who dislike having pets around your homes like me, then here are more reasons you shouldn’t think of having one.

High Expenses/Maintenance cost.

It is a true fact that owning a pet is a huge responsibility since pets depend entirely on their owners to survive. Owning a pet involves a lot of spending from purchasing it and overall maintenance.

No matter the kind of pet you own, you must man up to take total responsibility for the creature.

Sometimes your pet (dog) may accidentally break his toenail and your vet may recommend an urgent or emergency Dog Nail Removal Surgery as the only solution, you must be ready to take care of the bill as the owner.

You must keep your pet healthy, provide food, provide shelter for it, groom it and provide all it takes to keep it safe and all of these involve a reasonable amount of cash.

Damages To Property

Having a pet means you would keep it in your home or close by and if this is, then there is no way you can rule out the negative impact on your home.

Property damage could depend on the type of pet though if you own a dog, for example, don’t be surprised if you come home from work and find all your shoes being eaten. Most dogs exhibit a notorious character of chewing everything in sight no matter how well they are trained. Noise Pollution

As a lover of a quiet environment, I wouldn’t own a pet because animals make a lot of noise naturally.

For instance, dogs will always back both in the day or night or birds will surely screech and all of these noises will be a big problem as it continues as long as the animal stays with you.

Pet Allergies

Many people are naturally allergic to one pet or the other. Some persons may be allergic to their pet’s saliva and urine, but wouldn’t notice until they get a pet and live with it.

Sometimes family and friends who are allergic to your pet suddenly stop visiting you and this is not a good experience.

Pets Short Life Span

Pets are companions; they are loved and cared for just like humans so the relation between a pet and the owner is usually strong to the extent that it becomes part of the family.

But the bad news is, Pets don’t live very long, they have a very short life span. It is hurtful to lose a pet so quickly after being strongly attached to them.
