Introduction
Infinix Mobility the manufacturer of Infinix Zero 3 is one of the largest mobile phone company that took over the Asian and African market years ago with their high and low end Android phones and most importantly, the provision of affordable mobile devices. With the likes of Tecno, Gionee, iTel already having strong hold on the market, Infinix came with a bang with their great designs, unrivaled features and availability of OTA updates (Over the Air Update is a rare feature for other competitors such as Tecno).
The Infinix Zero series is arguably the most successful series of all of Infinix Mobility mobile devices till date. The Infinix Zero (X506) was a hit due to its slick design, 2GB of RAM, 16GB ROM, Light Weighted, run Android 4.2 (Latest OS as at the time of release), 13MP Camera and many other features. Most importantly, the popular device (Infinix Zero) was sold for around $120 (N23,900) when it was released. Then due to the success rate and the high demand level of Infinix Zero, the company decided to release the Infinix Zero 2 a slimmer, faster, lighter device with just a little price difference to the Infinix Zero.
Before the release of Infinix Zero 2, the company had released other series which also had great impact in the Asian and African mobile phone market, and had their competitors rushing back to the drawing board. The Infinix HOT series. The Infinix HOT (X507) still remains one of the best devices of the company, its great plastic design, first low end device running Android 4.4 KitKat, 5.0 screen size, 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM and was sold at a cheap rate of just $75 (N14,000), the price to functionality ratio was just unbelievable.
And later came the Infinix Hot 2 (X510), an improvement to X507, it was the first low end device to support the google Android One. It was shipped with Android 5.0 Lollipop and had a similar design to the Infinix Zero Series but doesn’t have the same glass back as X506, the price was also less than $100.
And then came the Hot Note Series for those who had taste for a bigger screen. Popularly known as ‘Jim’s Big Thing’ due to its large screen size of 5.5 inches and its heavy size. The Infinix Hot Note still remains one of the most sought after device in Africa today. T
he first version of the Hot Note series (X551) was shipped with 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM with other great features such as Android 4.4, 1.4GHz octa-core processor, 8MP and 2MP Primary and Secondary Cameras respectively and also come with a huge battery capacity of 4000mAh, and again the price is just a little bit above $120 (N24,500).
Infinix Mobility later realized that even though the Infinix Hot Note had a huge sale, the users were not satisfied with the memory specification and this led to the company releasing similar device with a better RAM size of 2GB and a ROM of 32GB and it was named the Infinix Hot Note Pro.
And recently, Infinix Hot Note 2 was released. A phablet device with a screen size of 6.0 inches it was tagged the ‘Infinix Big 6’ prior to it’s release, even though it has a large screen, that does not stop the device from having a very unique and beautiful design that not every manufacturer can boast of. This device has an ‘HTC Touch’ was what a friend of mine said during it’s launch. Infinix Mobility released this device to further expand their customer base to those who love even bigger screen and wouldn’t settle for Hot Note.
The Competition
Infinix is not the only company in the mobile phone market, so while it was busy improving it’s products, manufacturers such as Tecno and Gionee who have major share in the mobile phone market were also releasing improved products to satisfy the need of the consumers and to meet all expectations.
Tecno Mobile on its part had always been the close competitor to Infinix Mobility, the Chinese owned company was the first to break into the African mobile phone market with it’s affordable java phones in the mid 2000s. And then it launched one of the first low end Android 2.3 devices (Tecno N3) in the year 2012, it never looked back and it has been growing and improving ever since.
While Infinix was busy releasing its Zero, Hot, Hot Note Series, Tecno was also busy releasing devices in the series of its own, they include the Tecno J series (Tecno J7, Tecno J5), Tecno L Series (Tecno L6, Tecno L7), Tecno Y series (Y4, Y5, Y7) and many more series with various phone types in every series. Tecno is arguably the mobile company with the highest new device ratio in Africa.
While Gionee on the other hand is well known for the strong battery capacity of it’s devices, earning it a wide range users due to the power nature of the regions it operates (Asia and Africa). The top priority is a device with a lasting battery capacity. Starting from it’s M series (Gionee M2, Gionee M3 Gionee M4), the company had been committed to to providing devices with great lasting batteries.
Infinix Zero 3 Release
After releasing the Hot Note Pro and Infinix Zero 2, the company was reluctant in pushing another device into the market simply because it’s devices where doing just fine in the Market, with popular stores such as Jumia and Konga struggling to cope with the huge demands of the devices and even with the sudden rise in the Dollar exchange rate, customers were not still discouraged and more demands for Infinix devices were on the high.
Until Tecno released its Camon Series (Camon C8 and Camon C5) along with its Tecno Phantom 5 and Tecno Phantom Z. And as if they were awoken from a long deep sleep, Gionee also released the now popular Gionee M5, a device the company used it’s battery power to win the heart of many.
Infinix Mobility saw what was coming when Tecno released the Phantom Z and Gionee released the M5, devices with 3GB of RAM and 32GB ROM, specifications they do not have any device in the market to compete against. They knew they were losing the mobile market to their fierce competitors, so they need to act fast.
They did act fast, and not just fast but also smart, Infinix picked a series that the people loves the most, the ZERO and it did a great job in improving the design, Technology, Connectivity, Processing speed and Memory. Therefore, on the 15th December 2015, Infinix Mobility announced the birth of Infinix Zero 3.

Build and Design
The Infinix Zero 3 has one of the very best designs among the newly released gadgets; It has a 151 x 75.8 x 6.8 mm dimensions making it a slim and wide device that will fit into any palm without hassle. Its Weight of 172g makes it a little heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S5 but it’s way lighter than the Gionee M5 (211g). It has a Display of 5.5 inch and an impressive 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution with a good PPI ratio of 400, its touch screen is very responsive, its Multi-touch supports great and comes with the popular Gorilla Glass 3.
The Infinix Zero 3 has an accelerometer and proximity sensors just like every other high end smartphone. The device’s exterior is as impressive as the interior features, along with its Stanless Steel Frame and Diamond Texture, it also has an Explosion Proof Front and Rear glass.
Looking so similar to the other Infinix Zero series, the Zero 3 comes with 3 hard buttons, all at the right side of the device, the first 2 buttons serves as the Volume Up and Down while the third button serves as both Power and Lock buttons. Still at the right side is where you find the Memory Card Slot, the left side of the device is less busy with just the Sim card Slot which consists of the 2 Mini sims insert-able.
The device have the the earphone jack at the top and the usb/charging port is located at the bottom.
The only noticeable design turnoff of this smartphone lies in the sharp edges which will make it uncomfortable for the hand to hold for a very long period of time. A curvy edge like that of Samsung Galaxy S5 would have been better.
Interface and Menu
The Infinix Zero 3 is shipped with Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and up-gradable to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). The Menu, Home and Back buttons are located at the bottom part of the screen just like in Infinix Zero 2.
Infinix Zero 3 Camera
This is the area Infinix try to fend off any close competition, with 20.7 MP secondary camera and a 5 MP front camera, an attempt to tackle the Tecno Camon C8 which prior to the release of Infinix Zero 3 was the leading device when it comes to camera in the same category, the Tecno Camon C8 has 13MP rear Camera and 5MP front Camera.
Infinix Mobility knew what they need to do to take over the market, bring out something better or fall short. And they did brought out something better, the Infinix Zero 3 is the first device in the low end class to come with a 20.7 Mega Pixel camera. The camera is powered by the Sony IMX 230 CMOS making it the first of its kind, it also has a 6P Largan Lens.
Performance
With a 64 BIT REAL OCTA CORE processor, you do not expect the Infinix Zero 3 to lag while running any game or application. Its technology is of the best as confirmed by the amazing AnTuTu Benchmark score of 44345.
Many HD games have been tested and confirmed working fine without lag on Zero 3. These include, Modern Combat 5, FIFA 16, PES 2016 and many other.
Battery
The X552 comes with an improved battery of 3030Mah, better than its predecessors
Price
The Infinix Zero 3 (X552) is currently sold for less than $300 (N54,000). A price that is far less than the specification. Can you imagine if the Infinix Zero 3 was manufactured by brands such as Samsung, HTC, or Sony, the price will definitely multiply the current price by 2.
